Opening Act Contest Gives Artists the Opportunity to Open for Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi 2017 Opening Act Contest

(This contest has ended)

Jon Bon Jovi today announced on Facebook Live an opening act contest that allows bands to upload an audition for the chance to open an arena date on Bon Jovi’s upcoming 2017 This House Is Not For Sale Tour.

It is the third time in recent years that the Grammy Award®-winning band has invited local and regional artists to share the stage (2006’s Have A Nice Day Tour and 2010’s The Circle Tour). Those chosen will demonstrate that they have the sound, style, and substance to open an arena show.  A different artist(s) will open for Bon Jovi on each one of the Live Nation-promoted concerts listed below.

Jon Bon Jovi said, “Every great band starts small and builds their rep one show at a time. That’s the opportunity we were given and now we want to pay it forward. If you’re ready for the arena stage, submit your audition tapes and join us in playing for the best audiences in rock music.”

TO ENTER: Bands will upload audition videos beginning now at or the Bon Jovi and Live Nation Facebook pages. Submissions will be displayed in a live gallery for viewing and sharing.  Live Nation will choose 10 finalists, and Bon Jovi management will select the opening act contest winner for each tour date. All musicians who are selected as tour openers will be featured across Live Nation and Bon Jovi’s Facebook pages. For rules, visit

  3. San Jose, as you know, has an amazing SAP Center which you’ve sold out many times! We can’t wait to see you here again! The SJ Sindicate would be honored to support your show and I know we’d do it justice in front of our hometown!

  5. Hello,
My name is Jennie J and I submitted a video for the contest running in Phoenix Arizona at talking stick resort on March 4th to open up for Bon Jovi, I’m on the site and I do not see my submission on the page. I’m a little worried about my submission since I haven’t got a confirmation, I submitted it from a cellphone though so I don’t know if that affected anything. If you could get back to me and let me know if it went through or not that would be so much appreciated.

Thank you so much for the opportunity.

    1. Hi Jennie, Thank you for submitting your video to the Opening Act Contest! There’s an approval process that happens prior to the videos going up on the submissions page. If you’d like to confirm that your video has reached the submissions team, please e-mail Thank you and good luck!

      1. Hi, my band Personal Public has been submitted twice on accident for the Columbus show. We tried posting a video early last week and it wasn’t loading, so we tried to submit another video and it worked, but now we have two videos. Is there any possible way of deleting one of those videos?
        Thank you!

  6. I submitted my bands video for the Bon Jovi contest. The band is the New York rock. I left my computer before it was finished uploading and came back to find it turned off. Every time I go to the contest Page and click on submit video it says my video has been added but I can’t see it anywhere in the videos section of the contest. Please help!

    1. Hi Mike – The videos go through a submission approval process before being added to the contest page, so it may be in that stage now. You can e-mail to confirm your video has been received and no technical issues occurred. Thank you for your submission and good luck!

  7. Doing a show with a band like Bonjovi is a remarkable opportunity for any band. This would be an honor. Hope we win but I am happy that bonjovi is giving local talent a chance like this.
    Thank you bonjovi.

  8. Lots of great videos posted so far. Just something I noticed…contest says no more than 5 members in band, but lots of videos with more than 5 members. My band has 5 members, but we play live with more musicians….will we get disqualified if we post a live video with more than 5 members? Thanks.

  9. A few years back a great band we shared the stage with many times won this competition. Our friends right here Outta Fort Lauderdale,” Ashley Red”. They said the TERI CATLIN BAND should try out next time. So, the divine moment has come. Much thanks and gratitude to you for the opportunity to open for such veteran’s of tremendous talent. BonJovi has been a huge inspiration in my life.
The TERI CATLIN BAND will bring a positive rock’in message to every song and will make Bon Jovi proud.

  10. My bands video was uploading for over 9 hours and never stated that it completed. Now when I try to submit our video again we get a message that our video is under review, but I’m wondering if it ever actually uploaded successfully, since we never got past “video uploading.” The band is Jessie Albright Band and the submission deadline is in less than 48 hours. Please help. Thanks.

      1. Thank you for your response. I sent an email to that address a couple days ago, but have not yet received a response. With the deadline less than 24 hours away, I’m not quite sure what to do next. Please advise. Thank you so much.

  11. Hi, my name is Bobby Rolens, I submitted a video for St.Louis based band “Baywolfe”. It’s a live video from a fan on a club date, not great quality but the idea is there. Baywolfe has been a popular St. Louis club band for many years, and yes we have played our share of Bon Jovi material.. lol

  12. I’m just wondering why there is no movement over the weekend meaning there’s no new videos from any of the Cities and it’s Martin Luther King day today and there’s still nothing new will there be something new tomorrow?
I also submitted something and it says it’s being reviewed it was on Saturday and it’s Martin Luther King day today and we are waiting patiently we are Dr. Rock from Las Vegas Nevada

  13. Hi,I’m so excited about submitting for Dallas! I couldn’t get my band’s Facebook page to connect because it’s linked to my Facebook. Just want to make sure my band’s name is listed and not my name. My band is Love Past Blue. We are in the approval process. We know several of the bands/artists that have applied and it looks like a competitive field. We have a fun scene here in the big D! Can’t wait to see who wins! (our fingers are crossed).

  14. Hi! Can I submit to a city in which I don’t reside in? For example, if I live in New York, can I submit into Los Angeles? Thank you!

  15. I’ve been trying to upload my stuff since last night for Tampa and it wouldn’t work. I tried 4 different devices and if would stop at the upload. I met all the requirements too. :/

  16. Thanks a lot for paying it forward Jon! From Upstage (yes I was there, so was Bruce) to The Great Notch Inn, and from The House of Music to the Power Station, we’ve played and recorded at them all! Some with Tico Torres sitting behind the drums! Jersey roots grow strong and long! I’ve been guitarist and vocalist for so many great artists, (Chubby Checker, Ronnie Spector, Johnnie Johnson, and Marshall Lytle, just to name a few!) that we figure it’s our turn! Are we ready? You bet we are! Real Rock Drives’ first CD “Having A Great Time, Glad Your Not Here” reached #1 on Reverbnation and has have been received with much enthusiasm by our fans and audiences! Our video is live from The Newton Theater, Newton New Jersey opening up for Marc Farner (Grand Funk Railroad) in August of 2016. Hope you enjoy our music as much as we enjoy making it! It would be great to share the stage with Tico again after all these years. Hey brother rock and roll never forgets! Thanks again for the opportunity and all you do for New Jersey Jon. ” We’re Real Rock Drive and we play American Music!!”

  17. Hi!
    I’m Valeria Campagnale from Italy.
I’m a manager and promoter. I’d like to ask you if Bon Jovi will do the same contest for Europe as well when they’ll come in tour here.
    Thank you in advance.

  18. Hi there,

I was trying to upload all morning and afternoon and for some reason the video uploader was not accepting my file, it was either loading and never working or saying the format was wrong (when it matched the file requirements on my computer). When the new file finally got sent over the submissions were closed for the Tampa show.

I’m messaging to see if there is ANY way we could still be considered for the Tampa date?

We’ve uploaded to YouTube for convenience sake however we can absolutely send the file if this is better. Here is the link to the video:

We as a band are very inspired by Bon Jovi, not only in his huge influence in the music industry but all of his humanitarian efforts. We have done much in this area as well, from speaking to thousands of children about the Truth about Drugs, pro bono shows for all kinds of charities, to tours in Taiwan promoting the subject of Human Rights education (which is where we will be for all of March this year). It would be a huge honor to even be considered for this show.

    All the best,

  24. Anxiously awaiting the results for February 8. As a music educator, this would be an amazing experience to bring back to my students. How many could honestly say their teacher rocked out on stage (legally) at the Bon Jovi Concert?! You are one of my favorites, as well as a favorite of my students. My first day teaching at my current school, a student asked, “Ms. Caughman, do you know that song Livin’ on a Prayer?” My response, “Well of course I do!” The student asked excitedly, “Can we sing it?!” and that is exactly what we did in our “Rock on Rebels” spring concert last year! As a person that has been in music my entire life and now with an amazing original band, this would truly be a dream come true and amazing opportunity, not only for our band Blackbeard’s Truck, but something I can bring back home to my students as a real life music experience. When you dream big and work hard for it, your hard work will pay off! Thank you for inspiring so many to continue to follow their dreams.

  25. Is there another way to upload our video? I am under the limits for the requirements and have the appropriate file extension name (mp4) but it keeps error-ing out whether its on wifi or LAN. Thanks much!

  26. Hi there,

My band is trying to upload a video but it keeps saying upload error… The video meets the requirements but will not upload.
    Suggestions ?

  27. Thank you Bon Jovi. My 10 year old son, Ryan, and I submitted a video of a piano piece that he composed for the April 1st show in CT. He is quite the pianist in my opinion. It would be a great opportunity if he could be the Opener for the Opening Act. A great way for him to show that music can start at any age and how important music is in a child’s life. I hate to see it when music and the arts are cut from schools and communities. Music never dies.
Can’t wait to see you in April 1st 🙂
    A BIG fan…

  28. Hello JBJ and Live Nation.
I’m sure this e-mail comes much too late but as we have not heard the results for the March 27th Excel Energy concert for the opening band in St. Paul, MN, I’m hoping you will deeply consider THE best band in the twin cities…GB Leighton. Not only do they have an amazing following but I dare say there is not a band leader in the area that is more philanthropic than the leader of this band. Dig deep…he’s a giver!!!

  29. I can’t access the contest page. It asks for a login name and password. How do I get that? I tried signing up for the Bon Jovi Mailing List but your system gave a “please wait” message for over 15 minutes. I was hoping to see the videos that won so I could learn from them to submit my own.

    1. Hi Bruce, this link was for the last leg of the tour in 2017 and is now closed. Apologies for the inconvenience.
